Greenlee Smythe, daughter and granddaughter in one of Pine Valley’s fine old families, arrived determined to win back college boyfriend Scott Chandler. When she discovered that Scott was besotted with Becca Tyree, Greenlee made sure that Becca saw a tape of Greenlee and Scott together, and assumed Scott had made the tape. In fact, Greenlee was behind the video scheme, and it met with partial success – Becca and Scott did split for a while. Greenlee and Scott were together a few times, but he never entered the relationship with any enthusiasm, so Greenlee turned her sights to Ryan Lavery.

Unable to snare Ryan, she enlisted the help of Leo duPres, who had his eye on Becca. When neither relationship came together as planned, Greenlee and Leo became lovers and remain best friends, although still have as their goals Becca and Ryan.

Greenlee maneuvered her grandfather into investing in  Ryan’s new business, IncredibleDreams.com, and she became  Ryan’s partner in the endeavor.  That fell apart when Ryan "borrowed" $3 million from the company to bankroll his rescue mission to Chechnya.  Greenlee, desperate to ingratiate herself with her beloved, got the money to replace the missing funds from mob guy Wade Randall.  She gave up on Ryan and trashed his place after she discovered that he had been carrying on with Gillian, and turned once again to Leo.  Leo, meanwhile, had been jilted by Becca, and the two of them are slowly beginning to realize their feelings for one another.  Greenlee is still in big trouble with Wade, however, and her grandfather has a plan for her, too - relocating her to California!
