A
true veteran of the soap opera field, Ron Hale was born in Grand Rapids,
Michigan and began acting while in high school in Chicago.
He enrolled in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York at
the age of 19 and has since worked on stage, screen and television.
His foray into the world of soaps began when he portrayed
In 1973, Hale took over the role of Dr Jim Abbot on Love is a Many
Spendored Thing, a daytime drama that had earlier in its existence
featured what would be Hale’s future GH cast mates. Leslie Charleson
(Monica) and Constance Towers (Helena).
He went on to command a thirteen-year reign as the popular Dr.
Roger Coleridge on Ryan’s Hope, from 1975-1989.
The role garnered Hale two Daytime Emmy nominations.
He also worked in the feature film, All the President’s Men in
1976, as well as guest appearances on such TV series as MacGuyver and
Matlock. After Ryan’s Hope ended, he did stage work with his brother, Jim Thigpen in Columbia, South Carolina. He assumed the role of Sonny Corinthos’ prodigal father, Mike Corbin, in 1995, originally as a temporary part, lasting only 4-6 months. When both fan support and the acting dynamics with Maurice Benard (Sonny) blossomed, GH Executive Producer, Wendy Riche, invited Hale to continue on in the role. He has since had several crossover appearances on GH’s sister show, Port Charles. |
