March 14, 2004

Talk about more WTF moments... there's a campaign underway to boycott ABC daytime on March 23rd to protest the perceived lame-ass story lines that have been spreading between AMC and OLTL and are destined to do so even more so.  Here me now and believe me later, folks, unless you have a whole pile of Neilson families with their little boxes at the ready, boycotts do not work!  Unless you have one of those handy dandy little Neilson boxes wired for sound, nobody at ABC gives a damn whether you turn your TV off, on or teach it to sing showtunes when the thing is unplugged.  While viewers would like to believe that turning off the TV in protest "shows them," it sends no message to anyone except that you have an extra hour or three on your hands.

In the grandest exercise of positivity ever, ABC Daytime is set up on such a way that the ONLY way you can deliver a significant message to the powers that be is to write to the actors who you like.  Writing to the actors you don't like falls into the "any publicity is good publicity" category.  If you care enough to write, it's a vote in the actor's favor, whether you are writing to wish death upon the character or to pray for their eternal salvation.  It's still seen as viewer interest and whether you love them or hate them, ABC just wants to elicit emotion.  Might as well place your vote where you want it to count.  Turn off the TV if you don't want to watch the shows, not because you think it's going to accomplish one damned thing, whether there are 10 people or 10,000 tuning out.  Viewership is only tracked through the Neilson company.  Just so's you'll know.

AMC

Did you hear the rumor?  We have the actual spoilers that both Babe and Bianca end up going into labor in the "cabin in a snowstorm" soap storyline #14567.  Babe actually does deliver MiMo, but it's what happens afterwards that turns into speculation.  Thusfar, what I've heard is that Paul gives MiMo to Babe while the ladies are passed out, then gives Babe's babe to Kelly (who inexplicably has a baby who is about 3 months premature and weighing 12 pounds or so, but hey, SORAS starts early, I guess).  Bianca is told her baby died (*sniff*) and the soaps are bridged for a while yet.  As if the flitting back and forth between Paul and Babe on the shows wasn't mind-freezingly boring enough, now we have the mad baby shuffle going on.  Just say No, Paul!

Now that Tonya Pinkins has a contract with AMC to continue playing Olivia for a while, the question is, when do we get to see nummy Tom Cudahy again? Will Tom and Olivia have a long distance marriage now that she has a job in Pine Valley?  Katrina hopes not, for he was purty.

Was Tanisha Lynn not just not the sweetest little thing as Danielle Frye?  It's about time Reggie got a girl. He's been on his own since Jonie left town and seeing him at a shy disadvantage was sweet and endearing.  Reggie's way of approaching a young woman with friendship first rather than the typical leer and sneer is refreshing.  It's a damned shame that Michael Jordan (Reggie) was not nominated for the Daytime Emmy Award for Best Younger Actor.

OLTL

See how easily amused I am?  While a good percentage of the younger viewer audience says "Who the heck is THAT?" when John Sykes put his hand on Rae's shoulder, I was reaching for my Kleenex box and sending up an excited cheer.  Amazingly enough, rather than killing off Rae as would have been easy to do, the powers that be instead chose to give Linda Dano a send off befitting of a OLTL vet.  Having Rae survive her tormentor's ring of fire and instead leave the show on the arm of the love of her life was a real tear-jerker.  Rae has never been one of my favorite characters.  She was pretty much a nowhere character when she was Gretel Cummings (not a Rae in sight), assistant to gajillionaire Adam Brewster who was courting Pat Kendall.  I couldn't understand why they would bring back the character when her impact on the show was so minimal as to barely register as a blip on the radar screen.  Bringing back the character primarily to decimate it over a fraudulent diploma never seemed to make much sense, but the highpoint of Rae's tenure on OLTL, past and present, was her warm and romantic relationship with Detective John Sykes. Their May and December went together beautifully and never failed to bring a smile to my face.  When John Bolger left the show, it never really felt as though their story was finished, so his return was particularly gratifying to me, personally.  Bolger left OLTL in 2001.

John Bolger is the grand-nephew of stage and screen actor, Ray Bolger, who played the Scarecrow in the movie classic, "The Wizard of Oz."  Bolger was cast in a TV prime time pilot opposite his real life best friend, Jason Alexander ("Seinfeld"), called "Everything's Relative."  The show tanked, but the long time friendship is still going strong.   The actor is no slouch behind the camera as well, having directed episodes of (guess what?) "One Life to Live."

Linda Dano

As for John Bolger's onscreen paramour, Linda Dano has stated that she will be "spreading her wings" after departing OLTL, possibly exploring opportunities for a talk show or returning to stage performances.  Of course, the fashion maven will continue to sell her wares on QVC on a regular basis.  Dano is a published author and columnist as well as having an impressive acting dossier.  (She won't be hungry, in other words, folks).

The self-deprecating, but confident and vibrant actress loved the chance to dress up in 1970's wear and don bad make up for her scenes of being trapped by Dr Haver.  Those who have worked with her call her "fearless" and "the consummate professional."

Dano's official website is at http://www.lindadano.com/.

Matthew Ashford's last day on OLTL as serial killer, Dr. Stephen Haver, will be March 19th, when Haver is shot by an unknown assassin and manages to croak out "John McBain did it" nanoseconds before he slips off to that great big killing spree in the sky.  For more information on Matthew Ashford and to watch for his future plans, check in with http://www.mashfordpage.com/.

Milli Tirelli, who previously had scenes in "Maid in Manhattan" and "Penn and Teller Get Killed" will be appearing off and on as the woman who raised the (now known to be) long lost Adriana.  Tirelli will appear in scenes with Kamar de los Reyes (Antonio) as he works to learn the truth of his god-sister's parentage.  Of interest is the info that Tirelli has appeared on the TV show "Law and Order" as four different characters during the show's run.

With a big and small screen credits list longer than your leg (go on, check it out here)  Alex Rocco brings a long and active career to his quickie role as FBI Chief, Christopher Scaletta, an old friend of Bo's.  Rocco will be showing up on March 15-16th and interestingly enough, seems to have very few pictures available in which his mouth is not open.

Weirdness.

He has such an amazing list of shows and films in which he has been featured, from "Batman," to "The Godfather," to "The Simpsons."  You just gotta love a guy who diversifies.

GH

Hmm.  That didn't take long (in the scheme of things, anyway).  I'm told that viewers will begin to see the beginning of the end of the end of both Sonny and Carly and Jason and Courtney in the next two weeks, to culminate in May sweeps.

Although both Sonny and Carly will be drawn into their current relationships due to injuries sustained in the rollout of Lorenzo's attempted hit on Sonny, word is that both couples are on the road to reunion.  March 22nd is instrumental in the Sonny and Carly reconnect.  Jason will also be making it clear to Courtney that he needs his wife back.

Here is the scuttlebutt I was able to pick up from snooping around some of my sources:

1)  Lose the rumors that Morgan is anyone's child but Sonny's.  He's a Corinthos through and through (until it's rewritten).

2)  It's being considered that the Sonny and Carly reunion might be complicated by a pregnancy, most likely Sam's and not Carly's.

3)  Just before Sonny and Carly reunite, Sonny finds out that Carly knew Kristina was his child.  (This was first tossed around as being between Sonny and Sam, but the powers that be wanted to work the Carly and Alexis dynamic a bit)

4)  It will actually be the fallout from Sonny and Carly's break up that brings Jason and Courtney back together again.  Supposedly, they will reunite before Sonny and Carly do.

5)  Despite the belly/baby feel, there is NO Liason reunion planned.  It's Ric and Elizabeth all the way.

6)  Carly will find out that Lorenzo was behind the car bombing.  Also, there are still murmurings around about a casting call for Sophia, Lorenzo's long lost love.

Those are the gossipy rumors that aren't in stone.  Here are the spoiler bits:

Alcazar is blinded by the blast from Sonny's limo.  Sam sees the guy who planted the bomb and is promptly stabbed by him.  She manages to get back to Sonny's penthouse for the dramatic "collapse into the arms" scene.  Alcazar plays the wounded king, macho "go away for your own good" routine so familiar to the Jasper Jacks and Edmund Greys of the world.  Just before the blast, Carly was thinking of leaving Lorenzo, believing it best for the boys.  After the blindness, she stays with him while Sonny feels obligated to take care of Sam.  He moves her into the penthouse and spoils her with his cooking and clothing gifts.  When he has to cancel a visit with the boys to nurse Sam to health, Michael sneaks out and finds the two of them together after Sonny told him he had to cancel due to business.  (ow)  Carly takes off to see Alcazar as well during this time.  Afterwards, Sonny takes Michael home and Carly comes in just as he tells Michael that he will always love her.  Sonny later plants the seeds of doubt in Carly's mind about who ordered the hit on him.

Alcazar, while still in the hospital, ends up in a close shave situation with Nurse Faith.  He has other problems of his own after his assassin blackmails him by threatening to tell Carly the truth about who ordered the bomb in Sonny's limo.

On Sonny's end, Luke comes into the story when he promises to find out who planted the bomb.

Rebecca Herbst's maternity leave will start the end of March (tape dates), however she will air for a while into April.  Shortly after her return, Elizabeth will have her baby.  At time time, there are no plans for Elizabeth to die or for RH to come back as a different character.

If you wanted to know more about the little girl, Tessa Allen, who played Mollie (child with Jason) and will soon be airing as the new Lesley Lu, you can check out her official website at http://www.tessaallenonline.com/.  Lesley Lu (who is 10, Tessa is 7) will be having some strong scenes in the wake of Nikolas' disappearance, both with Lucky and with Luke.  Looks like LuLu has fallen victim to the Lucas Jones, Edward Quartermaine Soap Opera Reversed Aging Syndrome (aka "SORAS 2).

Speaking of Lucky, although rumors are around (I heard'em too) that "Mary" is coming on board as a love interest for Nikolas in the wake of a NEmolation derby, I'm hearing she's for Lucky.  Isn't he just too frickin cute for words?  Why they had to cut that hair, I cannot imagine.  (rrowwl)

The role of Lois is definitely being recast.  A casting call is underway and Rena Sofer is NOT interested in returning.

Two more vets are supposedly on the way out the door. I didn't get names, just numbers.

That's all for this week!  Hope you have a fantastic plunge into Spring this week!
