EYE ON STAFF SOAPS PROFILE
NAME: Kathy Hardeman
IN WHAT STATE DO YOU LIVE?
Texas. I’m not a native Texan which is much more dangerous because I’m passionate about being Texan. No need to send me any funny Texas e-mails – I think I’ve seen them all, but I still don’t say y’all.
MARRIED? So married to the most wonderful man God put on earth. Together 25 years this summer.
CHILDREN? 3 - Boy, Boy and Girl along
with various strays and 3 grandchildren. (I am a VERY YOUNG Grandmother.)
FAVORITE TV SHOW WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD
WHAT DO YOU WATCH PRIME TIME?

FAVORITE ALBUM?
Another difficult question. Music usually plays if I am at home or in my vehicle. Christian rock, regular rock, R&B, Jazz, new age, country (once in a while) – I have CD’s of all kinds. The only types I’m not drawn to (so far) are opera and big band. Currently, I am most passionate about piano. George Wilson, Peter Elman, Jim Brickman play on a regular basis. Oh, and don’t forget Norah Jones whose CD I purchased last spring when it was only $6.99. I told everyone who would listen to buy this CD because it’s so wonderful. Norah still hasn’t called me to thank me for marketing her music. Go figure.
FAVORITE NON-SOAP HOBBY?
Writing. Bet that didn’t surprise you. I love Tai Kwon Do and being outside.
WHAT SOAPS DO YOU WATCH AND FOR HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU WATCHED EACH ONE? WHAT
GOT YOU STARTED?
General Hospital won a place in my heart at the height of Jason and Robin. I guess mid 1997. I’d never watched a soap except Dark Shadows as a kid and I made fun of people like me. My mother-in-law became ill and I sat with her during the day. She followed a strict television viewing regime, which included General Hospital and a few others. I don’t even remember what the other soaps were now. Anyway, Jason and Robin on the bridge caught my attention and while I considered myself above daytime TV, I found myself watching their scenes. The rest, as they say, is history, because I am well and truly hooked since then.
It was a good way to start watching a soap because whenever my husband says something like, “Don’t you think you’re going a bit overboard?” I say, “Blame it on your mother.” I know Mama is in heaven having a good laugh over my GH habit. Boy do I miss that woman!
Sometimes I watch Port Charles (obviously something deep in my psyche is drawn to vampires) and occasionally I’ll catch bits of All My Children and One Life To Live, but I don’t make an effort to see them.
FAVORITE MALE CHARACTER FROM EACH SHOW ?
Everybody, all together now – Jason, of course. General Hospital
FAVORITE FEMALE CHARACTER, SAME?
I go back and forth because I like smart and tough. If Alexis and Carly could be combined – they’d be the perfect character. Liz held my attention for a long time but right now she’s all about bicker and sex.
FAVORITE STORYLINE FROM EACH SHOW YOU WATCH (PAST OR PRESENT)?
Past will always be Jason and Robin. I am such a sap! Present, I don’t know if I’ve become pickier or more discriminating, but I like bits of different storylines - Sonny’s breakdowns, Alexis in smart attorney mode (defending Zander and Sonny), Carly in the middle of a scheme, Skye and Coleman, Zander.
LEAST FAVORITE MALE
CHARACTER FROM EACH?
Depends on the day and storyline. Many times I dislike the character while I admire the acting – A.J., Edward, Ric. Cameron Lewis hasn’t grabbed my interest yet. Sorry Sherry.
LEAST FAVORITE FEMALE CHARACTER FROM EACH?
Same as above – Courtney, Skye, Liz, depends on the day and material. I didn’t mourn Sarah, Liz’s sister, or Hannah, Roy’s Fed daughter.
LEAST FAVORITE STORYLINE FROM EACH?
TEENAGERS. I am really going to resent having them shoved down my throat this summer when I haven’t been offered one reason to care if Maxie sleeps with Kyle or Georgie’s crush on Lucas. Pfft!
