Katrina's Nonsoapy Journal

YAYYY!  I finally got a copy of the Kirby game really cheap on e-bay!  It should be here in a week or so.  I have bested the beast that could not be tamed.  All hail, dood.  The guy is just in LA and is sending it out today, so with any luck, it will be here soon.

A couple of months ago, E! stopped airing "True Hollywood Story" between 10-12 and since Judge Joe Brown and Judge Mills Lane are no longer around in that time, I was floundering on the shore, gasping for air with nothing to watch.  Adult entertainment is what keeps me sane in a world of Bob the Builder and Rolie Polie Olie.  I saw that ER was airing on TNT and remembered that I'd seen several episodes that I enjoyed, plus I was an avid Chicago Hope fan, so I tuned in and now I'm totally addicted.  They show back to back episodes that are (for now) totally running in order, so it's like 2 hours of ER a day.  I love it.  I'm finding myself totally getting into the complexities of the characters and the depth of the storylines, especially those that are recurring.  I love that you don't have to have watched pervious episodes to enjoy the episode that's showing, but if you did, you get an even greater depth to what's being shown.  I haven't watched any of the new shows.  I'm not sure I want to because I don't want to know what happens to everyone.  We are in the glorious George Clooney days and I'm completely smitten.  Leave me alone and let him smite me.  What joy!  I've finally stopped seeing Delbert from "Revenge of the Nerds" when I look at Anthony Edwards, which helps.  Carter makes me think of Doogie Howser.  He looks like such a baby.

My other favorite show (on TONIGHT, BABY) is "Scrubs" and if you haven't seen it, oh honey, you must!  You must!  It's by far the funniest show I've ever watched in the history of TV and I've watched a LOT of TV.  Even Eric will watch it with me and he hates prime time.  Between that and reruns of Star Trek NG, occasionally reruns of X-Files (He's X-picky, I'm not), I can get a few hours of TV-sharing with him each week.  :)

I've always been a TV nut.  I was in heaven when cable companies started carrying hundreds of channels and it's rare that I can't find something on that I want to watch.  The History Channel is great.  I've been watching "The Anna Nicole Show" and frankly, she really, really scares me.  It's like watching a train wreck.  I have a fairly broad threshold of tolerability, but she is one of the most annoying people I've ever seen.  It's just... riveting.

When I was growing up, I loved TV.  I've nearly always had a TV schedule through the day, which helps me keep track of what time it is. I'm very, very comfortable with silence and love it when I'm meditating or getting in touch with myself.  For hour to hour life, it's fun to be entertained.

Even though I can usually find something to watch, I'm still pretty selective.  As with my movies, there are certain types of shows that I don't really care for and tend to avoid.  Other than a brief affair with Dynasty and Dallas when I was in England (which was HELL because there were only 4 channels and two were off all day!) and they were two of the few American shows that were on, I don't usually care for nighttime soaps like "Once and Again."  I don't enjoy churchy lafemme shows like "Seventh Heaven," "Touched By an Angel" or "Dr Quinn."  (Note:  I do know that some of these shows are dead, but I'm merely using them as examples)  I tried to like them, but after several shows, they just didn't work for me.  The whole "90210," "Melrose Place" stuff doesn't work for me.  In fact, there are probably more shows that I don't like than those that I do.  Good drama like "NYPD Blue" and "The Practice" I really enjoy, although it's sometimes inconvenient considering the times.  I loved the new "Family Affair," but it collided with "Scrubs," so it was a no go.  I still like "Friends" and "Will and Grace" is growing on me, even though I usually don't care of gimmick comedy ("Look! We're gay-friendly!!" and we will have several jokes every episode to support our gimmick).  I recently got interested in "Dharma and Greg" in reruns, though I've never much watched it in it's current season (is there one?).  "Fraiser," "Taxi" and "Cheers" is always good for a giggle.  I'd admire anything or person who can make me laugh or hold my interest for any length of time.  (That means if you've been my friend for more than a few weeks or I've e-mailed you more than twice, you must be pretty special).  As you can tell from my ever changing journal, I have the attention span of a gnat.

I'm on Day #4 of no soda (read:  hell).  I really miss it a lot.  It was a nice luxury.  As much as I've been peeing on the lightly steeped tea and water, I must be cleansing out pretty well.  Not sure when I'll start up again.  Going to the grocery store is hell as well.  I know it shouldn't be.  By now, I should be all cured of cravings and used to eating better and blah blah blah, but instead, I feel the ice cream, the NEW DISPLAY OF KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUTS, the Easter candy, the cookies, the breads all laughing at me.  Pointing and laughing.  I drove around Albertson's tonight with a twelve pack of Diet Coke and a package of Peeps in my cart for about a half hour while I shopped, then put them back.  It just felt good to be close to them for a while.  The Peeps are vile creatures when fresh, but open that package and let it sit out for a good 3 days and it's a priceless delicacy.  Cadbury caramel eggs will have to live and die without me this Easter.  >:<  God, I love those things.  I looked longingly at the makings for potato skins and tried to remember why I'm doing this at all.  As best as I remember, it was pretty important, so I guess I'll keep at it.  The weight loss has stopped for the past week or two, so that's getting depressing.  I guess I'm going to have to get more aggressive about the exercising to step up the octane.  I am resisting it, I know, because I'm already feeling pissy about losing the carbs and the diet soda, so adding in something else I don't want to do is gnawing at me.  Insert random grumbling here.

TV = Good

Good Food and Soda Deprivation = Bad

Good God, She's Verbose!  There's More!
